Zork III: The Dungeon Master (Infocom, 1982)

Tying up what could easily be the most important series in adventure gaming, Zork III was still a treasure hunt game, but of a much different type and with an entirely different goal that is obvious from the beginning, yet the deeper meanings of which are not revealed until nearly the end of the game. Though less colorful and atmospheric than the previous entries and more serious and dark, Zork III is still entertaining and challenging. Nevertheless, this is an important game, and definitely one that should be played, but after the other two in the series.
