Ultima IV: The Quest of the Avatar (Origin Systems, 1985)

Ultima IV was the beginning of a new design philosphy for Origin's popular Ultima series: It implemented a gaming philosophy practically unheard of in CRPG gaming, where fighting was considerably deemphasized and more attention given to charitible and virtuous acts. Ultima IV focuses on character development through character interaction and personal and spiritual exploration, requiring performing tasks seldomly violent in nature. Though some of these virtues are combat-driven, in general, the game is a relatively non-violent venture with a lot of conversation and an excellent sense of balance in combat and plot. Truly professional in every respect, Ultima IV is a great game with a different philosophy--great for fans of the Ultima series, CRPGs, or computer games in general.
