Tetris (Spectrum Holobyte, 1986 or so)
One of the all-time classic arcade strategy games, Tetris was deceptive in its difficulty. The object is merely to create lines of bricks by dropping different shapes in a well. The lines can be removed in groups of one, two, three, or four (the tetris), and the methods for performing each type of removal are practically endless, allowing lots of opportunity for exploration and variation. Some nice backgrounds and sound effects and music (in some version of the game) provided nice touches to an already original and interesting game. Definitely worth playing if you like strategy games, or even if you don't.
