King's Quest: Quest for the Crown (Sierra On-Line, 1984)

The first actual "3D animated adventure" was an important milestone in the computer gaming industry, but the technical breakthroughs of sixteen color graphics of the detail this had at the time overshadowed the weak plot and poor writing. The game has three completely seperate plot threads with little connection between them, with an ill-conceived overall plot. Technology-wise, King's Quest may have been okay for 1984, but it would never be considered serious entertainment today (despite the fact that many similar games are still being released). If you play it now, play it for the novelty value; to see where the color animated adventure game came from, and how the King's Quest series began.
