Plundered Hearts (Infocom, 1987 or 1988)

One of the first games in my memory to have a lead character that is definitely female, Plundered Hearts showed that author Amy Briggs had an excellent flair for writing romantic prose. Unfortunately, her writing in the rest of the game, including the puzzles, which are not up to the typical Infocom standard, leaves quite a bit to be desired. Multiple endings and colorful locales and characters add lots of flavor to this game, though most of the details could have been fleshed out better, especially in terms of the characters, which, if given proper depth, could have been some of Infocom's best. If you like pirate or romance stories, you will like this game, but if you do not, there is little else to truly distinguish, or recommend, this game.
