Computer gaming's first serious murder mystery adventure, and still one by which all others must be judged, Deadline set a standard in complexity and plot development that has yet to be matched. With numerous different suspects to interview and motives to sift through, trying to solve the murder in Deadline is hardly easy--there are over ten possible endings to the case, though only one that is the most successful conclusion. Though Deadline's parser and vocabulary seem limited when compared to Infocom's later all-text adventures, it still holds up extremely well today in terms of content and implementation. Deadline is a ground-breaking game that no adventure game fan--or mystery buff--should leave unplayed.
